[ ACTION (NEW BARK TOWN) ]

[Waking up in a strange world and being kicked out of the house you woke up in before you're fully awake is kind of weird. Nowi's still struggling to take in her surroundings as she leaves Mom's house. She's not used to getting up this early. "This early" is about ten in the morning, so it's not really early at all, but that's not the point. Nowi finally finds a nice patch of grass and flops down, lying on her back and stretching her arms above her head.]

Maybe I'll just get a little more sleep before I start that adventure or whatever...

[She should probably find the Shepards first though. Chrom will probably be annoyed that she's run off again. She doesn't recognize this place, but surely things will make sense eventually.

Nowi moves to push her hair out of her face only to come to a startling realization. She sits up immediately, reaching up to her ears.]

Wh-What!? What happened? Where are my ears!?

[Her ears aren't missing, they're just small. Instead of long, pointed ears, she's currently sporting human ones.]

How-- How did this happen!? What's going on!?

[Now that she's more awake and she's getting a better look at her surroundings, Nowi's beginning to tear up. Nothing here looks familiar. The buildings look completely foreign and not in the same way most of Valm looks foreign. They were last in a volcano, how did she get here? It isn't long before Nowi's in tears, rubbing her gloves across her eyes in a futile attempt to stop the tears.]

What's going on!?

[ VIDEO ]

[About an hour and a half later Nowi posts a video to the network. Well, it's probably not Nowi doing it, since she's not holding the 'Gear, but probably some poor sap she roped into helping her. The camera is angled down on her, which isn't really hard since she's so short.]

Hi! I'm not really sure how to start this, so I'll get to the point. I've been told that this is "Johto" or something, but I don't really care about that. I'm looking for a bunch of people! An army! We're called the Shepards and our leader-guy's name is Chrom, so if anyone's seen them, let me know!

[There's a pause while Nowi tries to remember what she was going to say. She tilts her head as she taps a gloved finger to her lips. It seems the cameraman (or camerawoman) has decided to keep the 'Gear focused on Nowi's torso, so you're not getting the full horribleness of her outfit. It's still pretty bad though. Yikes.]

Oh, right! I've got a question about my ears.

[She pushes her bangs back to show off her perfectly normal human ears.]

They're not supposed to be like this! They're like... long and pointy and stuff! They're really cute and not... tiny. These are human ears! I'm not a human!

[Way to just announce that, Nowi...]

And one more thing! What's this?

[She points to the ground and the camera pans down to show a Dratini curled up at Nowi's feet. She quickly hurries before the cameraman can say anything.]

Yeah, yeah, I know, a Pokémon or whatever, but that's not what I'm asking! Is it a dragon? It looks kind of like a dragon. It's kind of nice that someone gave me a dragon, but why was it in a ball? --Yeah, a Pokéball, that's not the point!

[She balls her hands into fists and stamps her foot as the camera moves to focus on her again.]

This is really annoying! What's going on around here? I was in a volcano last time I checked, so why am I here!?

[But as quickly as the anger comes it leaves her and Nowi sighs and folds her arms.]

Well, I guess that's all the questions I've got. So if you're listening and you've got some answers, let me know, okay? Thanks!

[Ginti's been watching for other newcomers to this place, just because he figures he can't possibly be the only one (suddenly coming to in weird places tends to happen to people in pairs and all that); that said, if this is what he's going to be working with...

God, this is not his day, is it.]

Of all stupid questions you could have asked right now, you went with "Where are my ears?" Really.

[You seemed pretty chill until the ears thing happened.]

[Nowi glances over at the newcomer (the very tall newcomer) and tips her head.]

What? It's a good question!

[The unfortunate cameraman hands her back the 'Gear and Nowi drops it into her bag without a care before turning to face Ginti properly.]

My ears are a very important part of who I am! How else are you gonna know that I'm a Manakete?

[She places her hands on her hips and pouts. Goodness you're tall. It's like trying to talk to Chrom except you're probably taller than he is.]

Plus it just feels really weird! You try having really long, pointy ears and then getting them shrunk down or cut off or whatever!

...I've got no idea what a Manakete is but it sounds more like a bird than anything - look, I think you'd know if you'd gotten your ears whacked off, you'd probably be bleeding everywhere.

It's not a bird, it's a dragon.

[Gosh.]

Well I dunno, it could've been magic or something. Or I could've been healed after they were whacked off! If you've got a good healer you can take some pretty serious injuries, and we've got the best healers! Though they're not around here, so maybe that's not what happened. Or maybe someone else healed me!

[Ugh, this one talks a lot.]

Maybe Mom did it, for all we know. Did you talk to that weird woman too?

Yeah, I did! She told me I was supposed to go on some adventure or something, gave me a bag, and kicked me out. I tried to get back in but the door wouldn't budge.

[...]

Is she your mom? I'm pretty sure she's not mine. She's not a Manakete so she can't be.

Of course she's not. She just kept insisting she was. She told me the same sort of thing she told you, though, she's probably got problems.

[...No one here doesn't have problems, as far as he's concerned, but still.]

I kinda feel bad for her... Oh, maybe she like, lost her child so she just adopts anyone who comes by to try to make up for it? Wow, that's really sad.

[Nowi actually looks pretty sad for a moment before abruptly switching gears.]

But that raises a good point - how'd we get here? I mean I was in a volcano so I'm really not sure how I managed to get here. A Rescue staff can't take you that far!

See, there's an actually good question - I was somewhere that most people probably can't reach, too.

[TO...PUT IT LIGHTLY...]

I talked to someone else on the...thing earlier, and she said she doesn't think that woman's the one dragging us here. So don't be all sad on her behalf - the whole "Mom" thing's probably just her job. Apparently no one's got answers for how we got here; that girl also said she'd been here for a year, so it may be a while before we get any.

Her job...? You think she was just acting like that? Huh.

[It's certainly possible, but it's definitely not something Nowi had considered.]

Really? A year? I guess that's not that bad. I mean, what's one year anyway? It's not all that long. I hope the others are here otherwise that's gonna be really weird when I go back home. They'll probably think I ran off on my own! And they won't have me to help them in battles! Oh man, I hope this doesn't mess anything up for them!

[Alright, that is an absolutely massive amount of questions, even by Jimmy's standards. But he's going to do his best to answer them all, so

HERE HE GOES-]

Well, what do Chrom and the other people in your army look like? Might be easier to figure out if they're here if I knew some more about them!

Second, everybody turns human when they come here, no matter what you were before! I know it's kinda weird, but that's just how things are. If you had powers and stuff, you end up losing those, too.

[Thankfully for him, that was never something he had to deal with. And...he's pretty sure he's human.]

And that's a dragon-type, yup! So, pretty much a dragon! That's a Dratini- and all Pokemon are kept in balls, usually, when they're not battling or just hanging outside with their trainers, yaknow?

[NO, JIMMY, SHE DOESN'T KNOW.]

Well, Chrom's really tall and he's got blue hair and he's got a really cool sword! I'd describe all the others but we'd be here awhile...

[It finally sinks in!! That took awhile.]

Human? I'm not a Manakete anymore? But-- But how can I not be a Manakete!? It's who I am!!

I could give you a few reasons, but I'm guessing dragons won't care about most of them.

Probably not! I mean I got this far by being this way, so I don't really see a point in changing it now!

You don't know what a Manakete is? Jeez, I thought everyone did. Manaketes are dragons! Not wyverns though, those are like...

[She waves her hands in the air a bit as if this will help somehow.]

Big dragons. Dragons that don't have any sort of kind-of-human form! Manaketes are like me.

[It takes him a minute to figure out what the hell to even do with that, but - ]

[...NOWI YES, APPARENTLY?]

Oh wow, normally I get something like "Nowi, that's bad" or "don't do that, Nowi" or "why this" so that's great! I knew there was a reason I liked you!

[Nowi, you like everyone.]

Wait! Wait, you're a dragon!? Sweet corn, that's so cool!!

Isn't it!? It's so much fun, just flying around wherever I want and doing loops in the air and blasting some Risen...

Yep! You're the grumpy sort, but that's alright! I've dealt with plenty of grumpy people and they're never all that bad! I'm sure you'll warm up in time!

Iiiif that's 'sposed to help you turn into a dragon...it's prolly not here.
